Web Design Course Description

This course is a practicum in which participants form teams to design and develop an advanced Web environment. Each team selects a topic and conducts research on what has been learned by other groups developing applications in the content area. Informed by this research, the team designs a Web-based environment and presents it for critique and discussion by the entire class. Then the team selects an appropriate hardware platform and suite of development software. Participants comment on progress as the environments undergo development on the Web. Each team member logs project contributions into an online reflective blog that is used for grading purposes. In the course wiki, each student contributes to a shared knowledge base of best practices and tools of Web design.

If you are taking this course under the title of ePortfolio Web Design, there is a more specific course description as follows:

This course is a practicum in which participants design and develop an electronic portfolio. Students form teams according to their chosen field and conduct research to discover the professional standards appropriate for this career. Informed by this research, the team designs a Web-based ePortfolio framework and presents it for critique and discussion by the entire class. Then each member of the team creates an ePortfolio Web site based on this framework. The threefold purpose of the portfolio is to enable candidates to (1) demontrate the extent to which they meet the standards, (2) decide what should be their priorities for professional development, and (3) learn to maintain this awareness throughout their careers. Participants comment on progress as each student's ePortfolio undergoes development on the Web. The contributions of each team member are logged for grading purposes.
