EDUC 818: Educational Technology Foundations
Welcome to the Web site for EDUC 818: Educational Technology Foundations. This course is a requirement in the Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership program at the University of Delaware.

- Candidates learn about the national standards that guide the field of educational technology and its applications to schooling and helping people learn. The two core standards bodies are AECT and ISTE, but in addition, many content areas have their own educational technology standards. In EDUC 818, candidates learn the AECT and ISTE national standards and discover additional standards that are applicable from the candidates' respective professional organizations.
- Candidates study the National Education Technology Plan and consider its implications for the future of schooling.
- Candidates compare the definitions of educational technology from AECT, ISTE, and the DOE, and in their own words, candidates express how they believe educational technology should be defined within the context of their own content area or workplace.
- Candidates read the book How People Learn, and the class discusses how to design technologically enhanced learning environments that align with the principles of How People Learn.
- Candidates explore the educational technology knowledge base, which contains articles about foundations, methods, assessment, general instructional strategies, domain-specific strategies, design, planning, emerging technologies, technology integration, and a look forward.
- Candidates learn about the power of G Suite and use Google Sites to create a website on a topic of their choosing. Doctoral candidates are encouraged to choose a topic related to their dissertation of practice.
