Standard Operating Procedures/Job Hazard Analysis: Laboratory Operations

The use and purchase of highly toxic materials, carcinogenic materials, reproductive toxins and materials with unknown toxicity requries special procedures and approval from the Department of Environmental Health & Safety and either the Chemical Hygiene Committee or the local Departmental Chemical Hygiene Officers. The special procedures and approvals are required to assure that the proper engineering controls, safety protocols and written program are in place to protect the health and safety of the researchers and the University community. The definitions and more detailed information can be found in Chapter 12 of the Chemical Hygiene Plan

Examples include, but are not limited to, Arcolein, Allyl Alcohol, Chlorine, Nickel Carbonyl, Benzene, Beryllium, Hexavalent Chromium Compounds and Ethylene Oxide. The Standard Operating Procedures found below were created by EHS to help Researchers and Faculty Members meet the requirements of the Chemical Hygiene Plan and University Policy.
