Module Embedded Media Field

PDF version
Module Name:
Embedded Media Field
Module Project ID:
emfield
Module Status:
Under Review
Module Contribution:
User Contributed
Module URL:
http://drupal.org/project/emfield
Module Description:
This extensible module will create fields for node content types that can be used to display video, image, and audio files from various third party providers. When entering the content, the user will simply paste the URL or embed code from the third party, and the module will automatically determine which content provider is being used.
Justification:

We are currently working on a site that will show videos. These videos are being served from YouTube and possibly the UD video server (when it is in production). This module supports many providers, and we can add UD's server for the UD hosted module. It is an actively developed module by experienced Drupal designers/users and an existing plan for Drupal 7 migration. This module is also a better option than allowing my content providers (who may not be technically literate) to post embedded code and could either mistype something or change settings I want to enforce across my site.

Comments

Has this module or any of the related Embedded Media modules been looked at or reviewed yet? We have a contractor building our site. They are just about done and I want them to incorporate this module before they finish.

You can also customize the UD hosted version of this module to include a filter for UD streaming media server, when that is ready to go live. Thanks.

This should be done according to the oEmbed standard. The oEmbed module may be a better choice http://drupal.org/project/oembed in that it will not only allow embedding content from services that suipport oEmbed (like YouTube) but would also allow the drupal site to be an oEmbed provider for it's own content, allowing drupal items to be embedded in WordPress and other systems.
