Special programs -- Royal Thai Scholars

Royal Thai scholars

ELI welcomed 35 Royal Thai Scholars to its pre-academic program this summer. The group was carefully selected by their Ministry of Education to complete master’s or doctoral degrees at American universities in various fields. They will return to Thailand to serve in these fields after they have studied in the United States. During the busy summer session, the scholars were on a full schedule of academic classes and tutoring, special trips to Washington, D.C., New York, Philadelphia and Hershey Park, host family and ELI events and volunteering at the Newark Food Bank.

After acclimating themselves to American culture and academic expectations, they also cooked delicious Thai food and enjoyed a farewell party to celebrate each other’s accomplishments. It was a special pleasure for Anne Owen, academic cooordinator, to spend time with this group and to enjoy their beaming smiles.
