CAP expands, includes graduate students
Under the Conditional Admission Program (CAP), international students who have satisfied the academic requirements in their chosen degree program but have not yet passed the language requirement are conditionally admitted to the university. Students must then complete their language requirements by studying in the ELI program.
With someone in the undergraduate Admissions Office now dedicated to international admissions, said ELI director Scott Stevens, “real opportunities will be created for increasing the number of international students coming to UD.” In addition, the Office of Graduate Studies has recognized the need for the CAP program at the graduate level and will begin offering conditional admissions to graduate students who satisfy the academic requirements but not the language requirement.
In the past year, 13 students have entered the University of Delaware as undergraduates under CAP. To achieve this, these students have successfully completed the English for Academic Purposes Level VI Listening/Speaking and Reading/Writing classes and were recommended by ELI. Students approved for CAP do not need to take the TOEFL exam.
