In memoriam

ELI faculty, students and staff mourned the loss of Adrian Bivolaru of Romania, who died in April after a battle with cancer. In February, Adrian was awarded the Thomas Casadevall Scholarship for Promising Students of Merit. Shortly after receiving this award, Adrian was diagnosed with Burkitt’s Lymphoma. He immediately resolved to face this disease with courage, determination and good humor. Adrian’s kindness and character touched many lives. On April 19, over 250 students and faculty attended a memorial service held for Adrian on campus. In addition to formal eulogies given by the ELI director and two faculty members, a number of international students came to the podium to speak of Adrian’s kindness, generosity, love and faith. His memory will live on in the hearts of his many friends here at the University of Delaware. A scholarship has been established in Adrian’s memory.
