Special programs -- Teachers from Seoul, South Korea

Seven teachers from South Korea sponsored by the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education arrived at the end of August for six months of training. In addition to attending English classes in the regular intensive program, participants developed their language teaching skills through a series of workshops and seminars and by taking a graduate methodology class in the university’s MA TESL program.

The SMOE Teachers Training Program also includes an experiential learning component with visits to a variety of American schools, classroom observations and hands-on experience working with American teachers. The extended nature of the program has allowed the SMOE teachers to gain a deeper knowledge of American English as it is used in its cultural setting and a broad exposure to classroom and teaching practices in the U.S.
