For the fourth year in a row between June and August, ELI hosted 40 teachers of English from Jordan and Syria and from Egypt and Morocco under the Partnership for Teaching program funded by the U.S. Department of State. Teachers were nominated and selected in collaboration with ministries of education and U.S. embassies in all four countries and spent six weeks immersing themselves in two separate American culture and English teaching programs, designed by Baerbel Schumacher and coordinated by Schumacher and Brett Tomashek, each of which culminated in a final conference.
Once program alumni return home they will spend about six months applying new techniques and knowledge and then all gather again in their respective countries to organize a three-day conference for their colleagues, where they share their insights and successfully applied techniques and materials.
