Special programs -- Keimyung University
For the first time, Keimyung University’s Foreign Language Institute in Daegu, Korea, and the Korean Ministry of Education sent 38 secondary teachers to ELI to participate in a four-week language, culture and teacher-training program. From July 21 to August 18, the teachers, accompanied by escorts Sang Hyun Yoon and Kyung Bog Lee, attended ELI listening/speaking and American culture/pedagogy classes in the mornings and training workshops in the afternoons. Cultural trips to local schools, Rehoboth Beach, Washington, D.C., New York, Atlantic City, Philadelphia and Longwood Gardens rounded out the packed schedule.

Coordinator Lisa Grimsley, along with American culture/pedagogy teachers Nonie Bell and Barbara Gillette, designed a group project to encourage participants to reflect upon their stay while in the United States. Using the software Photo Story, UD instructors Paul Hyde and Bryan Lane coached the participants as they worked on their presentations.
