Special programs -- Teachers from Incheon, South Korea

The Office of Education of Incheon City, South Korea, sent two groups of teachers to ELI for training in January and February 2007. The first group to arrive consisted of 25 English teachers from a number of elementary, middle and high schools. Their goal was to learn current methods of teaching English, as well as to hone their listening and speaking skills. The second group consisted of eight high school teachers of a variety of subjects, specially selected to serve in Incheon’s newly opened international high school.

While the majority of them do not teach English in their new assignment, their main objective at ELI was to broaden their knowledge and awareness of the English language and American culture. In addition to their daily training programs, both groups enriched their experience through tours of local schools and visits to Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Washington, escorted by their academic coordinator, Sarah Petersen.
