Teachers from Goyang, South Korea |
Twenty-eight classroom teachers from 20 elementary schools in the city of Goyang, South Korea, attended a four-week professional development program at ELI in July and August. Some of the participants already include English among the many subjects that they teach their young pupils each day, while others anticipate the incorporation of English into their schools’ curricula in the near future.
The teachers refined their own language skills through listening/speaking classes and attended workshops to increase their mastery of current methods for teaching English. They deepened their understanding of American culture, especially through contact with their homestay families, trips to New York, Washington and Philadelphia, and visits to local schools, organized by their academic coordinator, Sarah Petersen.
