In general, your image will never print just as you see it on your monitor. This is due in part to the nature of your RGB monitor’s way of displaying color (RGB Gamut), and the way the color inks in your destination printer produce color (CMYK Gamut). Toss in the different inks types and paper options, plus the software you use to create your file and you could end up with some very disappointing and costly output. There is some good news for desktop printer users: most of the new photo printers are expecting to receive RGB images. With a little time spent on calibrating your monitor and paying attention to your setting when sending files to the printer, you can get very good results matching what you see on the screen. It is important to get to know and understand your printer settings, what type of inks (dye or chrome) you are using, what paper works best in your printer, and what settings to use in your software program when sending a file to the printer. The information and instructions to the left include general information that everyone should know about color printing. Some instructions are directed more towards users who are printing to Epson photo printers and using Photoshop to print their images. The issues and instructions addressed can be applied to other printers and software packages, although settings may be in a different location, but generally should still be available. |
