CAP program continues

Twenty percent of the international students admitted to the University of Delaware’s undergraduate program this year came through ELI’s Conditional Admissions Program (CAP). CAP students are conditionally admitted to the University of Delaware pending successful completion of English for Academic Purposes Level VI Listening/Speaking and Reading/Writing classes and recommendation by ELI. Students approved for CAP do not need to take the TOEFL exam.

Congratulations go to Xiao Li from China, Yuka Matsumura and Moe Akimune from Japan, You Jin Bae, Joo-Hyun Kim, Hee-Young Lee, Seung-Joon Lee and Joon-Mo Park from Korea, Yana Novikova from Russia, Ying-Chen Lu and Pei-I Wu from Taiwan, and Mercedes Quintero from Venezuela.

Quintero, who between her two times studying at ELI also spent a half year in France studying French, liked the fact that she had to take EAP classes. “The Reading/Writing classes were really helpful in UD with writing essays and research papers and Listening/Speaking classes helped a lot with pronunciation and vocabulary,” she said.

The university has begun “rolling enrollment,” a new procedure for CAP students in which applications will be reviewed and deemed academically admissible within a few weeks after receipt of the application.

“This is an exciting development,” said ELI Director Scott Stevens.

Students who are academically admissible to their choice of degree program but have not yet passed the TOEFL requirements and who wish to become part of this program may inquire through Kelly Galvin, ELI’s admissions counselor. The application form may be found on line at www.udel.edu/admissions/viewbook/apply/applyintl.
