If a course is dropped before the free drop/add deadline, the course will be deleted from the student record. If a course is withdrawn after the free drop/add deadline, a "W" will be posted to your permanent record.

    Procedures for Dropping

    1. Call the UD Online office to inform us of your intent to drop.
    2. Follow up with "DROP or WITHDRAWAL FORM" or written confirmation by:
      a. faxing (302/831-3292) or
      b. mailing (must be postmarked by the last day of the free drop period).
    3. Non-work-site students must return videotapes and CDs immediately to the UD Online Annex, 700 Barksdale Road, Building II, Suite 14, Newark, DE 19711.
    4. Work site or community college students must return tapes and CDs in their possession to their site coordinator immediately.

To receive a tuition refund, you must drop your course within the free drop/add deadline. For distance learning courses, this is generally two weeks after the start of the fall or spring semester, and four days after the start of winter or summer session. Please check the specific deadlines for your course and semester. Students may only make registration changes through the UD Online office. These changes (drops, withdrawals, course credits, etc.) may not be done on-line or by UD Phone. Please call 302/831-1079 for assistance.

Note: live-interactive courses follow the campus schedule for drops and withdrawals.

    Procedures for Withdrawing

After the free drop/add deadline, you still may withdraw from a course without academic penalty (usually up to eight weeks into the fall or spring semester). However, after the free drop/add deadline there is a processing fee, and you will not receive a refund. The processing fee is $20. Again, please check the UD Online calendar for specific deadlines for your semester. Please refer to the University's Official Student Handbook for a full explanation of the procedures. The UD Online call tag system for videotapes and CDs does not pertain to students who are withdrawing from their courses.
