Personnel notes

Faculty and tutors:
Leslie Criston, Russ Mason and Barbara Morris earned praise from their colleagues in their recent promotion to assistant professor. Grant Wolf and Debra Darrell concluded their two-year stay as visiting scholars at Kobe Shoin Women’s University in Japan, returning in May to Delaware and ELI, where friends and colleagues greeted them with open arms. ELI congratulates instructor Rebecca Toner (née Nessenthaler) on her marriage in April. Ken Hyde has added to his teaching and tutoring duties in the role of scheduling officer for the Tutoring Center. Former tutor Claire Sullivan has secured a position at the University of South Carolina. Tutor Bonnie Dawson, graduated in May from UD’s MA TESL program. Tutor Aura Draper succeeded Ken Cranker as our Self-Access Learning Center coordinator in November.

Administrators and staff:
Former associate director Kathy Schneider was persuaded to come out of retirement to chair ELI’s reaccreditation committee, doing a superb job, as always. She remains as a consultant for re-accreditation of the MA TESL program. Kelly Galvin was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the Institute with a promotion to the position of admissions and recruitment coordinator. Baerbel Schumacher, who has worked previously on federal programs for ELI, became a valuable full-time member of the ELI administrative team in April, accepting an appointment as program manager. Laurie Fuhrmann, who has given her resourcefulness and diligence to ELI as a part-time employee for five years, now shares her talents full time as staff assistant. Talented office coordinator Alice Daugherty has been appointed executive secretary to Dean Barnekov of our College of Human Services, Education and Public Policy.

Grant Wolf and wife Debra Darrell, shown here with son Gregory and friends in Japan, returned to ELI after two years as visiting faculty at Kobe Shoin Women's University.
