FEDERALIST INTERIOR

The interior of a Federalist-style house used either wallpaper or paint, generally even those families who were not rich could afford some sort of wall treatment. Ceilings were usually fairly plain, but often had some kind of stenciling. Some more elaborate ceilings had an ornament as a focal point in the center.
