123 MARKET ST

How can you construct a house that doesn’t exist anymore?

The house in question belonged to Dr. Henry Latimer. In 1800, he lived at 123 Market St in Wilmington, DE. Based on the census for that year, we found that he was living in the house with his wife, 4 children, and 3 “free persons,” who were most likely servants. No pictures survive, but we believe that 123 Market St was a federal-style townhouse that faced the street in the heart of Wilmington’s downtown.

This section is divided into five topics: location, façade, floor plan, architecture, and mysteries. The last section was included to show the questions we have not answered yet.
