ELI trains Ukrainian legal and business professionals

The ELI-Ukraine connection continued in 2002, as 30 Ukrainian professionals attended three separate programs at ELI. The programs were funded by a U.S. State Department grant which brought the Ukrainians to Delaware for training and professional exchanges.

Two groups of 10 lawyers and judges participated in a four-week training program in the American legal system and the administration of justice. The participants took classes in corporate and commercial law, criminal law, constitutional law, and court administration. Each group also spent 10 days in "hands-on" professional visits to the Delaware Superior Court, Supreme Court, Department of Justice, Division of Corporations, Federal District Court, private law offices, and a variety of government agencies. The second group of 10 Ukrainian business professionals participated in a similar program focused on American business management. In addition to their classes on campus, the participants served rotatin individual internships in a variety of Delaware businesses. All three groups also traveled to Washington D.C., and New York City for additional meetings and cultural activities.

The participants have now returned to Ukraine and will pass on the knowledge they acquired in Delaware by sharing it with their colleagues and putting the experience gained here to practical use.
