Making Sense of the Middle East

Rami Khouri

Khouri is a Palestinian-Jordanian and US citizen whose family resides in Beirut (Lebanon), Amman (Jordan), and Nazareth (the West Bank). He is executive editor of the Beirut-based Daily Star newspaper, published throughout the Middle East with the International Herald Tribune. He is an internationally syndicated political columnist and book author, and was previously editor-in-chief of the Jordan Times for seven years.

David Hoffman served extensively as bureau chief in Russia and the Middle East, before becoming the Post's Foreign Editor. Author of "The Oligarchs," about post-cold war Russia, Hoffman was recently named Assistant Managing Editor for Foreign News.

Ambassador of Germany to the U.S.

Ambassador Ischinger has been Germany's diplomat in Washington since 2001. He previously was special assistant to two German Foreign Ministers, and through the 1990's served on Germany's delegations of several international negotiations on EU enlargement and the Bosnia and Kosovo crises.

Founder, Women for Women International

An Iraqi native who arrived in the U.S. at age 19, Salbi is the founder and CEO of Women for Women International, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing women survivors of war, civil strife and other conflicts with the tools and resources to move from crisis and poverty into self-sufficient and active citizens who promote peace and stability.

State Department and White House adviser to President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright

mbassador Sherman is a Principal of The Albright Group, an international advisory firm. From 1997 to 2001, she was the Counselor of the Department of State, serving then-Secretary of State Madeleine Albright as a special advisor and consultant on major issues of foreign policy. She also served as Special Advisor to the President and Secretary of State, and the North Korea Policy Coordinator.

Undersecretary of State for Arms Control & International Security - nominated for US Ambassador to the United Nations

John Bolton has spent many years of his career in public service. Prior to his appointment in 2001, Mr. Bolton was Senior Vice President of the American Enterprise Institute, a nonprofit public policy center in Washington. He was Assistant Secretary of State for International Organization Affair, 1989-1993; Assistant Attorney General, Department of Justice, 1985-1989; Assistant Administrator for Program and Policy Coordination, U.S. Agency for International Development, 1982-1983; General Counsel, U.S. Agency for International Development, 1981-1982.
