Getting Started with Multimedia Equipment: Frame it, mic it, light it (For Windows and Macintosh users) This session will walk you through the basic equipment and process you need to capture video footage. Learn how to select an appropriate video camera from the Student Multimedia Design Center loaner inventory, when and how to use an external microphone, how to take advantage of available light, and when to bring your own lights. This session will also explain media formats, recording logs, and storyboarding.
Getting Started with Making a Movie: Windows Movie Maker (For Windows users only) Capturing and editing digital video is an important skill for controlling how video is used in your class. Whether you are editing video to meet your presentation needs or working on a video project assignment, this session will give you the necessary understanding of the video capturing and editing process. Participants will complete a basic hands-on video editing exercise.

Bring an idea for a recording script (or use the sample script for this session) and we'll guide you through the steps involved using Microsoft Photo Story 3. This session will also applications and benefits for using basic podcasts. By the end of this session, participants should have completed a basic podcast file that can be uploaded to a web server.

Putting Podcasts Online (For Windows and Macintosh users) This is a follow up session to Getting Started with Podcasting for both Windows and Mac users. Using the podcast created in the Getting Started sessions, this session will cover the creation of an RSS file and the publishing a podcast online. Participants should have an act vie web directory to complete the hands-on exercises.
Create Royalty-Free Music with GarageBand (For Macintosh users only) Apple GarageBand allows users to create their own music, legally and copyright-free. Through the use of instrumental loops within GarageBand, this session will introduce how to construct royalty-free music to accompany multimedia projects and narrated presentations. Topics include where and when GarageBand is appropriate, and file formats for exporting work for use in other programs. GarageBand is a component of the iLife software suite that ships with all current Macintosh computers.
Enhancing Audio with Audacity (For Windows users) Audio is an essential aspect of any multimedia project, and this session will help you create the highest quality audio possible. This session will present editing techniques using Audacity. Based on specific demonstrations and discussion, participants will work hands-on with modification methods that can be used to enhance audio for video, podcast, web page, and other multimedia sources.
Learn to Use Camtasia Studio (For Windows users only) Workshop participants will learn how to create high-quality presentations, training tutorials, and videos with features that allow you to record content from a computer screen, edit the recording, and add narration, images, music, and captions.
Adobe Fireworks CS3 (For Windows and Macintosh users) Workshop participants will be introduced to the Fireworks CS3 interface, and learn how to create images. Participants will also learn the basics of image editing, color correction, layering, animation, and how to optimize and export documents.
Presentation Tips for PowerPoint and Keynote Presentation programs such as Microsoft PowerPoint and Apple Keynote can be much more than basic bulleted list managers. This session will present tips and techniques to leverage your basic knowledge of PowerPoint or Keynote. Participants will learn specific suggestions that have proven to elevate the memorability of a presentation. This session will examine the organization, style, and delivery formats of presentations. This session is appropriate for Mac and Windows users of PowerPoint and Mac users of Keynote.
