Enhancing Audio with Audacity

Session Description

(For Windows users) Audio is an essential aspect of any multimedia project, and this session will help you create the highest quality audio possible. This session will present editing techniques using Audacity. Based on specific demonstrations and discussion, participants will work hands-on with modification methods that can be used to enhance audio for video, podcast, web page, and other multimedia sources.

Session Duration and Availability

This is a 50-minute session. Check the calendar for availability and register online. This session is also available upon request by faculty for incorporation into their courses. Faculty are also encouraged to arrange individual consultations for project planning and technical assistance.

No prerequisites for this session are necessary.

Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will understand:

  • how to record an audio file
  • how to edit an audio file
  • how to add music or sound effects to an audio file
  • how to enhance their audio file
  • how to save their audio file to listen to it and share it

Multimedia Planning Guidelines

  1. Plan ahead and start early.
  2. Get the best possible raw footage (frame it, mic it, light it).
  3. Consider data storage and file management.
  4. Be aware of copyright guidelines.

Practice Files

This course will assemble a basic audio file using a script, a recorded narration of the script, sound effects, and a music bed. You can bring your own files or use the practice files described here.

Script. Bring your own script or use a script prepared for this session.

Narration. We'll create an audio narration file with Audacity during this session.

Soundtrack. For this session, we will use provided sound effects and music beds.
