Getting Started with Multimedia Equipment:
Frame it, mic it, light it

Session Description

(For Windows and Macintosh users)
This session will walk you through the basic equipment and process you need to capture video footage. Learn how to select an appropriate video camera from the Student Multimedia Design Center loaner inventory, when and how to use an external microphone, how to take advantage of available light, and when to bring your own lights. This session will also explain media formats, recording logs, and storyboarding.

Session Duration and Availability

This is a 50-minute session. Check the calendar [link to session title] for availability and register online. This session is also available upon request by faculty for incorporation into their courses. Faculty are also encouraged to arrange individual consultations for project planning and technical assistance.

Prerequisites

No prerequisites for this session are necessary.

Objectives

By the end of this session, participants will understand:

  • how to choose and se tup a digital video camera;
  • when and how to use an external microphone;
  • how to use available light and when to bring their own lights; and
  • tips and techniques to help maximize the effectiveness of their video shoot

Concepts learned in class can be applied to all video shoots.

  3. Consider data storage and file management.
  4. Be aware of copyright guidelines.
