As a general recommendation for getting started, here are three sources of information.

  1. Free. Microsoft's own web site. For instance, the PowerPoint area of Microsoft's web site includes a trial version, tutorials, frequently asked questions, presentation templates, and suggestions for effective presentations. Over 250 free Microsoft Office templates and documents are available for a getting started with tasks such as developing proposals and keeping records.
  2. Under $10. The ReSource Network. For those who don't like to wade through pages of documentation, this is the essential guide to program features and controls.
  3. Under $20. Peachpit Press QuickStart Guides. These books present how-to information asa combination reference book and tutorial.

The download library at Law Technology News has over 75 categories covering everything from animation to XML. Although some are fee-based, most are free. Proceed at your own risk—the instructor does not endorse or provide support for all of the programs at this site.

Online Education Database
From the session 1 topic of "the hidden web," the Online Education Database highlights seven sites for medical and health information:
  1. PubMed — A service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine that includes over 16 million citations from MEDLINE and other life science journals for biomedical articles back to the 1950s. Includes links to full-text articles and related resources.
  2. Department of Health National Research Register — A searchable database of records of ongoing or completed project funded by or of interest to the UK's NHS.
  3. National Institutes of Health — A searchable encyclopedia of health topics.
  4. American Hospital Directory — A free searchable directory of US hospital information.
  5. Globalhealthfacts.org — A data bank of world health information, sortable by country, disease, condition, program, or demographic.
  6. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Data and Statistics — A data bank of statistical health information compiled by the CDC.
  7. New England Journal of Medicine (fee-based)— A scholarly medical journal with full text of current and past issues available online.
Library resources
Students enrolled in the Legal Nurse Consultant Certificate program may use the reference and research facilities of the Morris Library on the University of Delaware's Newark campus. The Delaware State Law Library (11th and King Streets, Wilmington) and the law library of Widener University School of Law, Delaware Campus (4601 Concord Pike/Route 202, Wilmington) also are open to the public.

Among the library's many electronic resources is an excellent compendium of Internet Resources for Copyright.
Employment information
The University of Delaware's Career Services Center (in Wilmington and Newark) may be used by certificate program graduates. Career resources such as job postings, career directories, and other job search resources are available. Contact the program manager at 302-831-8837.

Developing Job Seeking Skills is a collection of useful advice from UD's Career Counseling Center, with everything from dining etiquette to "the 30-second commercial."
