Handicapped Parking
Handicapped parking spaces have been designated in all major lots. They are located as conveniently as possible to accessible building entrances and are identified by appropriate signs. Parking in the accessway to a handicapped space is prohibited and is subject to a fine. Lots which contain handicap parking spaces are denoted on the parking map.
Use of handicapped spaces is restricted to vehicles occupied by persons who are handicapped and which bear an authorized Handicapped Permit (from the State of Delaware or another state) or bear a handicapped license plate. A valid University of Delaware permit for the lot in which the handicapped space is located is also required. Commuting students with authorized disabilities are eligible to register for a Gold permit regardless of their completed credit hours or off-campus address. Verification of handicap parking privleges is required (copy of plaque or plate registration). Please contact Parking Services for further information on how to apply. Users of handicapped spaces located in the campus pay-to-park lots must pay the appropriate hourly or daily fees.
Metered Spaces
Metered spaces are designed to provide convenient short-term parking and may be used for the time period activated on the meter. Individuals with University registered vehicles must pay to park in these spaces during the period that meter activation is required.
Metered parking requires activation seven days a week between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and midnight. Should a meter malfunction, the problem should be reported immediately to the Department of Public Safety. If there isn't a meter, a meter is out of service, and between the hours of midnight and 8 AM the parking space will be considered controlled by the color-coded sign in the lot where the space is located.
Vehicles parked in metered spaces can be cited for violations at one hour intervals once the time has expired.
Vehicles that display an authorized Handicapped Permit (from the State of Delaware or other state), or bear a handicapped license plate are exempt from meter activation. The vehicle, however, must display a valid University parking permit for the lot in which the meter is located or a valid visitor pass.
