University
of Delaware Information Technologies
(IT) is alerting computer users to a
new worm that will become active
Wednesday, April 1. This
worm--“Conficker.Câ€--affects
Microsoft Windows computers. If your
Windows computer's operating system and
anti-virus software are up-to-date,
your computer is probably not infected.
However, IT suggests that all Windows
computers be tested for this worm.
Apple MacIntosh and Linux computers are
not affected.

Carl
Jacobson has been named University of
Delaware vice president for Information
Technologies and chief information
officer (CIO), it was announced
Thursday by UD Executive Vice President
Scott Douglass. Jacobson, who has
served as interim vice president since
the retirement of Susan Foster in June,
2008, was named to the position of vice
president following a national search.
"Since joining Information
Technologies, Carl Jacobson has played
a key role in keeping the University of
Delaware in the forefront of the field.
As the University pursues its Path to
ProminenceTM, I am confident he will
continue to provide the leadership
necessary to keep UD on the leading
edge in these challenging times,"
Douglass said.

University of Delaware will host the
Lilly-East Conference for faculty
across East Coast institutions in
support of excellence in learning and
teaching Thursday and Friday, April
16-17, in Clayton Hall. The conference,
titled “Millennial
Learning: Teaching in the 21st
Century,†will highlight
how to design, facilitate, and assess
learning environments that support
student learning in this
century.

mail server.

learning management system.

Feb. 6, Ruckus Networks surprised
students and staff at colleges and
universities across the United States
by shutting down. The University of
Delaware had been promoting Ruckus as
one of the ways UD students could
download music legally.

Recently,
McAfee VirusScan 8.0 for Windows XP
stopped issuing automatic updates,
thereby exposing Windows XP computers
and the information stored on them to
damage by a host of viruses. All XP
systems on UDelNet must be upgraded to
McAfee VirusScan 8.5 as soon as
possible.

Havidán

Winter Faculty Institute on Jan. 6.
