Best Practices for Computer and Information Security
The University issues the following best practices to help you safely and productively use IT resources. They include recommendations for safe computing, data protection, and general information security awareness.
How to apply best practices
Faculty and staff
Faculty and staff have a duty to secure IT resources, including University information and IT devices.
Consult your unit head or technical staff to learn more about your unit's information security requirements, or consult your unit information security plan if your unit has developed one. Each unit has different data and computing needs, so always defer to your unit's information security requirements.
You can find more information in the "Requirements" section of each best practice page.
Students and other members of the University community
Follow the general guidelines on each best practice page to help you secure your devices and data and stay aware of topics in information security.
