10:04 a.m., Jan. 29, 2010----Research performed by Matthew Ginder-Vogel, associate scientist in the Delaware Environmental Institute, Gautier Landrot, a graduate student in environmental soil chemistry at the University of Delaware, and Donald L. Sparks, S. Hallock du Pont Chair of Soil and Environmental Chemistry and director of the Delaware Environmental Institute, is featured in this month's special issue of Environmental Science and Technology, the premier environmental science and engineering journal in the world.

CHAD students learn with U.S. Department of Interior database
12:59 p.m., Jan. 19, 2010----Students in an introductory preservation graduate course at the University of Delaware recently traveled to Washington, D.C., for a presentation to the Historical American Buildings Survey (HABS) and the Historic American Engineering Record (HAER) in the U.S. Department of the Interior about how they have used its database of drawings and photographs to conduct research on historic architecture.
Delaware adopts 'green' energy model invented at UD
10:33 a.m., Jan. 14, 2010----The state of Delaware is the first in the country to use a new “green energy savings bond” model invented at the University of Delaware Center for Environmental and Energy Policy (CEEP) to fund energy efficiency and renewable energy projects for public buildings.
Doctoral student wins Japan Society for the Promotion of Science fellowship
3:06 p.m., Jan. 13, 2010----Masahiro (Masa) Yamada, a doctoral candidate in linguistics and cognitive science at the University of Delaware, has been awarded a three-year, postdoctoral fellowship from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
HDFS grad students find internships are a 'full-circle experience'
8:27 a.m., Jan. 13, 2010----Three graduate students pursuing master's degrees in counseling and student affairs practice in higher education in the University of Delaware Department of Human Development and Family Studies participated in elite internship programs last summer and since returning to UD in the fall, they've been busy applying those experiences to their coursework and assistantships.

Travel grants offer grad students world of opportunity; proposals due Feb. 15
9:28 a.m., Jan. 5, 2010----Thanks to the University of Delaware's global travel grant program for graduate students, 29 UD students went abroad during the past year to conduct research, present musical performances, participate in public service internships, and pursue other scholarly activities. Proposals now are being accepted for the 2010 program.
Marine policy students head to D.C. as Knauss Fellows
11:19 a.m., Jan. 4, 2010----Two doctoral students from the University of Delaware's College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment (CEOE) will spend the next year in the nation's capital thanks to a prestigious award they've both earned. 8:35 a.m., Feb. 16, 2010----A doctorate in entomology and wildlife ecology and master's degree programs in biotechnology and software engineering were approved by the University of Delaware Faculty Senate at its regular meeting held Monday, Feb. 8, in Gore Hall.
UD art conservation team restores, preserves historic murals
1:04 p.m., Feb. 1, 2010----Members of University of Delaware's art conservation program are in the process of restoring two very large, historic murals for the Smyrna (Del.) School District. The 12-person team includes current UD undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, two UD alumni, a UD adjunct professor, and two other conservators.

4:24 p.m., March 25, 2010----Virginia Lorenz, who recently joined the University of Delaware faculty as an assistant professor of physics and astronomy, is working on one of the hottest areas in physics -- quantum memories. MPA alum receives national award for health center advocacy
8:42 a.m., March 17, 2010----Sarah K. Noonan, deputy director of Westside Family Healthcare in Wilmington, Del., who received a master of public administration (MPA) degree from the University of Delaware in 2006, was one of 15 nationwide recipients of the 2010 Betsey K. Cooke Advocacy MVP Award given by the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC).
Former Kellogg School dean addresses the future of business schools

Chemical engineering grad student receives prestigious fellowship
8:15 a.m., April 19, 2010----Elizabeth Kelley, a second-year doctoral candidate in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Delaware, has been selected to receive a 2010 National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate (NDSEG) Fellowship. The fellowship covers full tuition and fees for three years and provides a yearly stipend of more than $30,000.
UD graduate programs ranked, Education program jumps seven spots
9:36 a.m., April 16, 2010----U.S. News and World Report has released its newest ranking of the top graduate programs at universities and colleges across the country. Seeing the biggest increase in position this year for the University of Delaware is its graduate program in education, which jumped seven places since last year. According to "America's Best Graduate Schools," it's now considered the 28th best graduate program in the nation.

11:33 a.m., May 10, 2010----A team of chemical engineering researchers at the University of Delaware has developed a computational framework for screening potential bimetallic catalysts. The finding was published online in Nature Chemistry on April 25.

11:33 a.m., May 10, 2010----Craig Oates, a graduate student in the Department of Kinesiology and Applied Physiology at the University of Delaware, has been selected to receive a 2010 Master's Scholarship from the National Association of Athletic Trainers (NATA) Foundation.

UD's Warthog among top competitors in national event
9:05 a.m., June 23, 2010----A team of University of Delaware graduate and undergraduate students traveled with their robot Warthog to Detroit from June 4-7 to compete in the 18th annual Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC). Three years after its first entry garnered "rookie of the year" honors, Warthog is now a top competitor.

Shad in Schools: Restoring American shad to White Clay Creekents policies and practices of successful high schools
10:22 a.m., July 8, 2010----On May 7, the Water Resources Agency (WRA), a unit of the University of Delaware's Institute for Public Administration (IPA), released several hundred American shad fry into the White Clay Creek as part of the inaugural Shad in Schools project in the White Clay Creek watershed .

Graduate students assist local cultural institutions

8:16 a.m., Aug. 10, 2010----Gabe Fife, a graduate student in athletic training at the University of Delaware, has been awarded a master's research grant from the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA) Research and Education Foundation. Each year, the organization provides funds for "exceptional" research projects conducted by master's and doctoral students.

8:13 a.m., Aug. 3, 2010----University of Delaware graduate student Juliette Tolay has won an international research award for her work on cultural diversity and immigration in Turkey and has co-authored an influential report on Turkish foreign policy.

11:25 a.m., Aug. 2, 2010----Twenty-five University of Delaware graduate students have won global research travel grants in support of their academic projects over the next year, from analyzing the response of medical organizations to the earthquake in Haiti, to exploring contemporary art in the Czech Republic.

10:59 a.m., Sept. 3, 2010----Camille Jones, a second-year master's student in plant and soil sciences, has been awarded a prestigious STAR Graduate Fellowship from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Researchers study declining bobwhite quail populations
2:48 p.m., Sept. 2, 2010----With populations of bobwhite quail declining drastically across the country, Chris Williams, assistant professor of wildlife ecology at the University of Delaware, is turning his attention to saving grasslands and 'edge habitats' -- unkempt, overgrown areas often found on the edges of fields. Both are disappearing due to suburban development and increased efficiency in farming, Williams says.
