Applying National Standards to Improve Educational Results

EDTC Alignment with ISTE-TF

EDTC candidates who hold a basic teaching license have the option of earning the Technology Facilitation (TF) certificate, which is the ISTE-defined endorsement through which teachers exhibit the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to teach technology applications, support student learning, and prepare other teachers to use technology effectively across the curriculum. In order to earn this endorsement, the teacher must fill out the TF application form and be accepted into the TF track of the EDTC program. On the TF application form, the teacher provides evidence of certification and must submit links to portfolio artifacts demonstrating that the teacher has met the six NETS-T standards of (1) technology operations and concepts; (2) planning and designing learning environments and experiences; (3) teaching, learning, and the curriculum; (4) assessment and evaluation; (5) productivity and professional development; and (6) social, ethical, legal, and human issues.

Teachers accepted to the EDTC program who do not yet have a portfolio demonstrating NETS-T compliance can develop such a portfolio as they take the educational technology core courses in the first year of the EDTC program. After completing this portfolio, teachers are eligible to submit their TF application form.

Teachers who are accepted into the TF track complete the same eight program assessments as all other EDTC candidates. Teachers on the TF track have their performances evaluated via rubrics aligned with the ISTE standards, while all other EDTC candidates are evaluated via rubrics aligned with the AECT standards.

The following matrix aligns the EDTC performances with the ISTE-TF standards. In the EDTC program assessment plan, the ISTE-TF rubrics follow this matrix. Refer to the rubrics for more detailed information about the standards and the manner in which candidates are assessed.
