UD Alert
NOTICE: Please be cautious of a recent email phishing scam being sent to UD students, staff, and faculty. The phishing emails claim to be from "UD ithelp" with the subject "UD Alert". For more information visit UD's Threat Alerts Page
The University of Delaware's primary emergency notification tool, implemented through the emergency notification vendor, Send Word Now, allows UD to send emergency messages within minutes. UD Alert is activated only during major emergencies, situations where there is an imminent danger to the safety and welfare of students, faculty and staff, or if a state of emergency is declared.
Notices are sent as voice messages (to local, cell or home phone numbers) and text messages (to cell phones or pagers). Students, faculty and staff are all encouraged to register to receive UD Alerts.
Please visit the instructions page to register or update your contact information.
For more information about UD Alert visit the FAQ page .
Crime Alert
The University periodically posts articles to its news service, UDaily, about criminal investigations that affect the campus community. UDaily Crime Alert subscribers receive an e-mail each time such an article is posted. To subscribe, visit the UDaily Crime Alert subscription page.
UDaily
UD strives to keep its community informed. The UDaily news service is featured on the university's homepage and covers happenings and events across campus. In the event of an emergency, UDaily is updated continuously as information becomes available. Please check it regularly during emergencies for the most up-to-date details and instructions.
City of Newark
University Police partner closely with City of Newark Police. Our campus is not a gated, self-contained community, but rather is woven into the city's downtown. Much of our property is adjacent to private residences and many of students live off campus. The City of Newark offers its own alert system for citizens: – the InformMe Citizen Notification System.
Campus Escort Program
The University of Delaware Department of Public Safety provides a free walking escort service for students, staff and faculty to or from any University property or contiguous street, and specific areas off campus that immediately border the “Late Bird” bus route which is active during the academic year. Public Safety aides utilize the University's bus service as the primary mode of transportation for UD's escort service. In other circumstances, depending on the length of trip, Public Safety aides will walk individuals to their final destination. “Late Bird” bus stops are regularly reviewed for safety and lighting and are patrolled by University police officers. Information regarding the University's late night bus service, "Late Bird", can be found on the UD Parking & Transportation Services web site.
The escort service, designed to enhance your safety and peace of mind if you must walk after dark, is available during the hours of darkness every night of the week.
To arrange for an escort please call 831-2224 or use one of the more than 200 blue light emergency phones located throughout campus. Blue light phone locations are indicated by blue dots on this WALKABOUT map (.pdf). When calling, please be prepared to give your name, exact location and destination.
Public Safety carefully screens and selects its Public Safety aides. They are outfitted with blue Public Safety shirts or jackets, a traffic vest and two-way radios.
