WILMINGTON-
FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Although his wife was a Quaker, Mr. Latimer remained a Presbyterian after his marriage, and continued to attend the First Presbyterian Church, which was built in 1740. The church was used as a prison and a hospital by British troops during the Battle of the Brandywine. Mr. Latimer was buried at this church, while his wife was buried at the Friends meeting house. His body was moved to the Wilmington-Brandywine cemetery when the church was moved to park land in the 1920’s.
