March 3-4: EDUCAUSE webinar to highlight mobile technology and education

// Feb 19, 2010---

University of Delaware faculty and staff are invited to participate in an interactive Web conference with colleagues on campus and across the nation. The EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative 2010 Online Spring Focus Session, "Mobile Learning 2.0: The Next Phase of Innovation in Mobility," will be held from noon to 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 3, and from noon to 5 p.m., Thursday, March 4, in Room 011 of Smith Hall.

The event is free, although registration is required. Participants can register for an individual day or both days. Once registered, you can participate as long it as suits your schedule: Drop in for an hour or stay all afternoon. Light refreshments will be provided.

The goal of this event is to re-assess the potential of mobile technologies and identify innovative ways in which these technologies can contribute to learning and education.

This online interactive event is offered live inside an Adobe Connect virtual learning space. This space is designed to promote active interaction between the presenters, participants and content. Participants will have opportunities to ask the experts and their peers questions, engage in real-life scenarios around mobile learning and discuss best practices relating to mobile teaching and learning. The event is co-sponsored locally by IT Academic Technology Services and IT Client Support and Services.

According to EDUCAUSE, “This virtual event will be much more than just a 'usual' online seminar. You'll exchange ideas and collaborate interactively with the ELI community -- all without leaving your campus. You'll also receive all the resources and guided activities you need to help frame discussion and organize team events locally while simultaneously participating online.” The event includes a variety of collaborative approaches:

  • Keynote and plenary sessions: Sessions designed to provide a broad overview of the topic, probing contemporary theories and emerging approaches related to the focus session theme.
  • Parking lot chats: Informal opportunities to interact with the session speakers one on one after their sessions have ended.
  • Project parlors: Sessions that explore a single classroom project, emerging technology or campus initiative.
  • Scenario discussions: Teams will respond to contemporary campus scenarios or cases to begin building strategies related to the focus session theme.
  • Breaks: Opportunities to further probe session topics through guided discussion and collaborative activities, conducted with institutional teams or individuals virtually.
