Clicker selection process moves forward

// Apr 14, 2010---

Faculty, staff, and students are invited to participate in the selection of a new clicker system to be implemented for the fall 2010 semester. Details of the product evaluations, coordinated by IT Academic Technology Services (IT-ATS), are available at its Web site.

In keeping with EDUCAUSE's recommended practice, the University of Delaware standardized its support of clickers to a single product in 2006—InterWrite PRS. The product line was purchased by eInstruction in 2008 and will be discontinued after fall 2010. This situation presents an opportunity to find the best clicker technology to meet our faculty's requirements.

A faculty survey highlighted the need for a product that is equally robust in Windows and Macintosh environments, allows the use of Web-enabled devices, and integrates with the Sakai@UD learning management system.

The University's IT staff evaluated products and narrowed the field to two strong candidates: i>clicker and Turning Technologies. Opportunities to evaluate the two finalists and help determine the next generation of clickers are scheduled. Side-by-side comparisons will be presented in April and a summary session will be offered on Reading Day, May 19.
