IMSL Exponent Graphics

What is IMSL Exponent Graphics?

• application functions, built-in, high-level plotting and graphing capabilities, with more than 30  two- and three-dimensional standard plot types;
• a graphics tree (hierarchical data structure) with associated access mechanisms and and attributes; and 
• interactive, run-time access to data and more than 300 plot attributes manipulated using Motif- and non-Motif-based menus and widget sets.

The current implementation produces an error when you save the resulting graphics in a file format such as PostScript, CGM, or PICT.  Even though this error occurs, it will create the default file based on the format selected. Although you can compile your programs when working on any terminal, you must be on an X terminal or working in an xterm window to run the programs.

IMSL Exponent Graphics: Contents

• Fortran (f77) instructions

• When I compile my program, the system reports that it Cannot open file af.i.
• You need to fully specify the path for the include file as /opt/lib/ipt_1.2/include/af.i, rather than merely af.i. See the section Fortran (f77) Example Programs for a specific example.


• When I compile my program, I receive the message ld: fatal: library -lXt: not found.
• You need to add /opt/X11R5/lib to the LD_LIBRARY_PATH as specified in the section Setting the Exponent Graphics Working Environment for Fortran (f77).  Note that you must do this after having typed the source /opt/lib/ipt_1.2/iptsetup.csh command.


• The compiler complains that I have undefined symbols first referred to in ____.o.
• Check whether you have added the $LINK_EG to the f77 compilation command.  If you have, then check next whether you have spelled the names of subroutines and functions correctly.

• The compiler says that it cannot find include file: "ac.h".
• Check whether you have used $CFLAGS in the cc compilation command.  Then check whether you have set the environment variable CFLAGS when defining the Exponent Graphics working environment for C (cc).


• The compiler says that it cannot find include file: <X11/Intrinsic.h>.
• You need to modify CFLAGS to add the /opt/X11R5/include path when defining the Exponent Graphics working environment for C (cc).

• Start a new shell by typing,

    csh
or by opening a new window on the X terminal.
• Set up the Exponent Graphics working environment. If you are using Fortran (f77), see section Setting the Exponent Graphics Working Environment for Fortran (f77).  If you are using C (cc), see section Setting the Exponent Graphics Working Environment for C (cc). 
• Run the demo by typing,

    egdemo
    Starting demo ...
A new window will open displaying three different types of demonstrations to run: Two Dimensional Plots, Three Dimensional Plots, and Interactive Applications.

• Start a new shell by typing,

    csh
or by opening a new window on the X terminal.
• Set up the Exponent Graphics working environment. If you are using Fortran (f77), see section Setting the Exponent Graphics Working Environment for Fortran (f77).  If you are using C (cc), see section Setting the Exponent Graphics Working Environment for C (cc). 
• Start the online Exponent Graphics Help by typing,

    $HHPATH/hyperhelp $VNI_DIR/help/graphics.hlp &
For future use, we recommend you create an alias in your .localalias file, such as
    alias eghelp '$HHPATH/hyperhelp $VNI_DIR/help/graphics.hlp &'
Then you will only need to type
    eghelp
after setting up the Exponent Graphics working environment.
