1st Grade Summarizing & Vocabulary
The children in this group participated in a whole group lesson earlier in the day on summarizing the story Miss Rumphius. Now they are reading the story again to practice the strategy of summarizing during reading.
After the story, the students learn two vocabulary words (curious and wander). Notice how the teacher uses explicit instruction to introduce the two words, then invites the students to practice using the words in different contexts.
