Thunderbird 2 & 3.x: configure UD LDAP server

The following instructions will help you set up an LDAP directory service in Thunderbird. This will allow you to search for University contacts when you are composing a message.

  1. From the menu bar, click the Address Book icon (the third button from the left).
  2. From the File menu, click New, and then click LDAP Directory.
  3. In the Directory Server Properties window, enter the following information:
    Field Value
    Name University of Delaware
    Hostname ldap.udel.edu
    Base DN o=udel.edu
    The window should now look similar to the following:

  4. Click OK.
  5. From the Tools menu, click Options.
  6. Click the Composition tab, then click the Addressing tab underneath.
  7. Check the Directory Server check box.
  8. From the drop-down list, choose University of Delaware. The window should now look similar to the following:

  9. Click OK.
