Thank you for joining us at the University of Delaware for the 19th Annual Meeting of the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society. We are looking forward to a stimulating meeting thanks to the efforts of Conference Chair Jim Richards and Program Co-Chairs Sherry Backus, David Hudson and Carole Tucker who have organized keynote, tutorial, podium and poster sessions on the diverse topics that reflect the current interests in our field. Students in particular will benefit from clinical and research symposiums, as well as the mentoring program and social activities including the student mixer. I hope you enjoy your visit to the University of Delaware and want especially to welcome new members and first time attendees. You will find this to be a highly interactive meeting with many opportunities to share ideas and learn from clinicians, engineers, and scientists with diverse backgrounds and expertise. I hope that you will contribute to the discussions and debates which are critical to moving the field forward. This year promises some exciting changes as we have opted for an academic rather than hotel based conference venue. The Delaware campus is ideally suited to host our meeting given the local focus which includes six motion capture facilities. Your feedback following the meeting will be extremely important in establishing where and how future meetings will be held. I hope that you leave this meeting having obtained new knowledge, having made new connections, and having been energized to continue advancing the field of gait and human movement analysis.
Please continue your involvement with GCMAS after this meeting is over. The various councils are always interested in new help; it’s a small commitment and great way to be involved. If you are not yet a member, I strongly encourage you to consider joining. If you have a colleague who is working in motion analysis and is not a member, please recruit them. We need to grow to stay viable. I would also like to thank the many vendors whose financial support makes much of this meeting possible. As usual, you will have many opportunities to interact with our exhibitors and explore the latest products for studying human movement. Please stop by the booths and visit with the representatives during breaks and other free time you may have. Looking ahead, please plan to join us next year at our 20th annual meeting which will be held in Portland Oregon at the Hilton and hosted by Cathleen Buckon and Susan Thomas from the Shriners Hospitals for Children Portland on May 27-30, 2015. Dr. Jon Davids and Mark McMulkin will the program co-chairs. This is a great venue and I hope to see you there.
Have a great 19th GCMAS meeting and enjoy Newark!
Sincerely,
Bruce MacWilliams
President, GCMAS
