As a member of the University of Delaware network, you are
responsible for your computer - how it is configured and what it
does while connected to the network.
In the interest of facilitating the exchange of scholarly
information, the University does NOT restrict or filter network
traffic with a firewall or other extensive automatic controls
often provided by commercial ISPs. The University makes tools
available to configure your system to filter spam, viruses and
other unwanted network traffic and it is your responsibility to
use these tools.
So how is computing made secure? By individuals taking control.
Unlike a TV you turn on and expect to work day in and day out,
computers, like cars, need sound setup and maintenance to keep
them running securely and smoothly. Like being a defensive
driver, computer users need to be aware and cautious when using
the Web. The University provides the tools you will need, and
gives recommendations on how to use them. The rest is up to YOU!
