Located at 6 Market Street, this was one of the many Taverns frequented by the people of Wilmington. The Latimers certainly knew of it, and probably could have told you about some of the strange spectacles that happened there. Traveling performers often stopped at the tavern to put on shows. One lady of Wilmington recalls sneaking a peak at “wild animals” chained up in the back yard. The menus and signs in this tavern, and in many others, probably relied on pictures to communicate their messages, because a large portion of the population was illiterate.
