Thomas R. Ryan is Executive Director of the Lancaster County Historical Society, Pennsylvania, where he has overseen the operations of the society since January 1997. During that time he has spearheaded a major building project, assembled a distinguished professional staff, and helped renew and invigorate the well-respected 118-year-old organization. Under his guidance the historical society has expanded its educational and research operations fully utilizing new technologies to further its mission as a premier center for historical and genealogical research and learning (www.lancasterhistory.org). Tom curated the 2003 exhibition The Worlds of Jacob Eichholtz: Portrait Painter of the Early Republic, which received awards from both the AASLH and the Pennsylvania Federation of Museums and Historical Organizations. He also edited the accompanying book (under the same name) and authored two of its essays. His research interests are concentrated in the areas of nineteenth-century social history, Middle Atlantic vernacular architecture, and material culture studies. Tom holds a B. A. in Modern Language and Literature from the College of the Holy Cross, an M. A. in Education from Boston College, and is a candidate for a Ph. D. in American Civilization at the University of Delaware. He resides in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, with his wife, Tracey M. Weis, and his sons, Michael and Tuck. |
