Dear UD Community, I am writing on behalf of all of us at the University of Delaware with deep sorrow and sympathy for the Brown University community as they mourn in the aftermath of a horrible shooting on their campus this weekend. This touches all of us at UD, as we go about studying, taking finals and concluding the semester with heavy hearts for our friends and colleagues. I know this tragedy has heightened anxiety and vulnerability across college campuses everywhere. And here at UD, we are still processing the arrest earlier this month that helped prevent a potential incident on our own campus. We are ever more committed to campus safety. In terms of immediate additional security on our campus, UD Police has already begun directed patrols in which they conduct hourly checks on buildings. These will continue overnight and through tomorrow. In addition, UDPD will assign officers to maintain a visible presence in study areas in Perkins Student Center, Trabant University Center and the Morris Library, as well as buildings where final exams are concentrated. We encourage everyone to remain vigilant and contact UD Police to report anything suspicious. The LiveSafe app remains an important safety and communication tool for our community that allows you to submit tips to UD Police and receive important information. I encourage you to download the free LiveSafe app if you haven’t done so already and to confirm that your contact information is accurate. This will enable you to receive any emergency notifications through the UD Alert system when they are sent. If you want or need to talk to someone, please reach out. Resources for students and employees are listed below. With deep sadness for the Brown University community, and in solidarity with each other - Yours in UD,
