Youth
Birding at the DOS
Do you know a teenager or child that has an interest
in birds? They may enjoy participating in a new series of youth
birding programs being offered by the Delmarva Ornithological Society.
We will introduce youth to the basics of birding, expose them to
area bird life and highlight the excitement of migration. As many
of you know, an interest in birds can lead to a greater overall
interest in the outdoors and the environment as a whole.
Youth between the ages of 8 and 17 may participate.
DOS will have binoculars available for participants that do not
have their own or want to upgrade. Joe Sebastiani and Derek Stoner
will lead the trips, along with other birders who may wish to
participate.
DOS youth programs are free and transportation
costs and equipment are sponsored by DOS. For each trip, we will
meet at the Ashland Nature Center in Hockessin, DE. Van transportation
is being arranged through the Delaware Nature Society and participants
should dress for the weather and bring a bag lunch, drink, and
enough spending money for a fast-food snack.
If you know of a friend or family member
that would enjoy learning about birding, please contact Joe
Sebastiani at (610) 444-1146 or (302) 239-2334 ext. 122.
