April 16: 'The Magic Flute'
Master Players season concludes with concert opera version of Mozart's 'The Magic Flute'
3:07 p.m., April 4, 2016--The University of Delaware Master Players Concert Series will present its concert opera version of The Magic Flute (Die Zauberflöte), Mozart’s most famous singspiel, at 5:30 p.m., Saturday, April 16, in Mitchell Hall.
Directed by internationally acclaimed opera director Martin Katz, who was cited by the Los Angeles Times as “the dean of collaborative pianists,” this fairytale opera will conclude one of Master Players’ most successful seasons ever, with every concert so far sold out.

Co-presented by the UD Institute for Global Studies under the direction of Ravi Ammigan, the season finale casts industry-leading singers in the major roles, including Matthew Curran as Sarastro, Inna Dukach as Pamina, Jonathan Lasch as Papageno, and Natalie Polito as the Queen of the Night.
Blake Smith, UD associate professor of voice and opera and Magic Flute co-producer, will sing the leading role of Tamino alongside UD alumna Shari Feldman’s rendition of Papagena.
Master Players has also selected a few outstanding UD student and alumni performers to share the stage with these extraordinary artists, including Ravon Middlebrooks as Monostatos; Meg Supina (alumna), Rachel Pomeranz and Kaitlyn Tierney as the Three Ladies; and Travis Lucas as the Speaker of the Temple.
Collaborative pianist Matthew Brower will serve as assistant music director. All will be accompanied by the Master Players Chamber Orchestra.

In a unique twist on the standard concert opera format, this abridged production will be accompanied by a series of storybook images custom designed for Master Players by the acclaimed artist and set designer Eddy Seger, and will feature a storyteller as a delightful surprise to the family audience. English supertitles will support the original German libretto.
For those with physical limitations, a free shuttle van from the Roselle Center for the Arts garage to Mitchell Hall will run every 10 minutes from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. and after the concert. The restrooms in Gore Hall – the building next to Mitchell Hall; not Gore Recital Hall, which is in the Roselle Center -- will be open before the concert and during intermission.

Tickets for this event are $25 for adults; $20 for senior adults, staff, faculty and alumni; and $10 for students. Tickets can be purchased by calling the REP box office at 302-831-2204, in person, or online.
