Events Stories

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

It will feature more than 40 craft and imported beers paired with creative food offerings at 17 downtown Newark restaurants, including the soon-to-open Del Pez restaurant.

Unlike most beer festivals, this event will take place in the restaurants. Guests will travel from restaurant to restaurant to sample the featured brews and tasty dishes designed to spotlight the beverages at that particular establishment.

Tickets are not required as this is a pay as you go event. All guests need is their wallet and state issued photo identification, as beer samples are only available to those who are at least 21 years of age.

The first 2,500 guests will receive a Food and Brew Fest 11 commemorative five-ounce tasting mug. These are available at all participating restaurants and at the information booth on the lawn of the University’s Academy Building at the corner of Academy and Main streets.

Guests can sample one of the restaurant's featured brews for $1, as well as sample featured restaurant fare for the event at varying prices.

A day-of-event program listing all the featured brews and menus will be available at the restaurants and at the information booths located at the Academy Building lawn.

Balloon decorations will line the street, keeping guests in the festive spirit while strolling downtown, and children will be able to sample specialty root beer on the Academy Building lawn through 6 p.m. or until supplies run out, whichever comes first.

Parking is free for the event in municipal parking lots and at on-street parking meters.

For more information on participating restaurants, featured brews, and menus, call 302-655-6483 or visit the festival website.
