Special Saturday, family weekend skating events set at UD Ice Arenas

8:40 a.m., Dec. 19, 2014--A series of special Saturday night and family fun weekend skating sessions have been announced by the University of Delaware Ice Arenas.

The Saturday night skating events at the Fred Rust Ice Arena will last from 8-10 p.m., and will open Jan. 3 with a live DJ.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

• Through Sept. 16: Women of color in academia

Admission is $8 per person – free for UD students with valid ID -- and $4 for skate rentals.

Special Saturday nights are as follows:

Jan. 10, School Pride Night. UD students who wear the blue and gold will receive $1 off skate rentals, and high school students who wear their school colors and logo will receive $1 off admission and skate rentals.

Jan. 17, Karaoke Night. Visitors are encouraged to sing their favorite tunes.

Jan. 24, Hockey Night. Those who wear the apparel of their favorite hockey team will receive a free UD hockey rally towel while supplies last and will be entered to win a UD hockey jersey.

Jan. 31, Super Bowl Pre-Game Party. Those who wear the apparel of their favorite football team will receive $1 off skate rentals. There will be free subs, chips and lemonade while supplies last.

Feb. 7, Karaoke Night.

Feb. 14, Ladies Night. All women receive free admission and skate rental.

Feb. 21, Star Wars Night. Visitors are encouraged to dress as their favorite Star Wars character to get free skate rentals. Note that masks cannot be worn while skating and must be removed prior to taking the ice.

Feb. 28, live DJ.

Family fun weekends will be held from 1-3 p.m., Saturdays and Sundays, through the winter.

Jan. 17, Anna and Elsa from Frozen will be featured.

Jan. 24, free UDairy Creamery ice cream.

Jan. 31, Scooby Doo Mystery Machine.

Feb. 7, Juggling Hoffmans from 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Feb. 14, magical Valentine show.

Feb. 21, air brush tattoos and sand art.

Feb. 28, magic show.
