UD ranked among nation's leading universities in fall higher education guides
10:15 a.m., Aug. 6, 2014--The University of Delaware has received high grades for its vibrant academic and campus life in two fall higher education publications, the Princeton Review’s The Best 379 Colleges and the Fiske Guide to Colleges 2015.
The Best 379 Colleges recognizes UD as a “well-rounded” college experience, offering “top notch” academics, “vibrant campus life” and “amazing school spirit” on a “gorgeous campus.”

The guide notes in a section featuring comments from students that UD offers “the perfect balance of academic intensity and excellent social life” and is within easy reach of major East Coast cities.
Only about 15 percent of America’s 2,500 four-year colleges and just four colleges outside the U.S. are profiled in the book, which is the flagship college guide of the Princeton Review, a leading test preparation and college admissions services company.
It includes detailed profiles of the institutions with ratings in categories including academics, campus life, admissions and financial aid.
The book also includes lists of the top 20 schools in 62 categories based on the Princeton Review's surveys of 130,000 students attending the universities that were included.
In addition to the general ranking, UD was No. 12 in study abroad. The University launched America’s first study abroad program on July 7, 1923, when a group of eight Delaware students set sail for France aboard the ocean liner Rochambeau.
In the Fiske Guide to Colleges, UD is hailed as “a public gem” that boasts solid academic programs and offers a “small school feel with the opportunities of a larger university.”
The guide adds, “With a challenging and stimulating academic environment, comfortable size, an increasingly smart student body, a healthy social scene, and up-and-coming athletic teams, UD offers a blend of strengths that would make many schools envious — and leads to many happy Blue Hens.”
Compiled by former New York Times education editor Edward B. Fiske, the Fiske Guide to Colleges is a selective, subjective, and systematic look at more than 300 of the best and most interesting colleges and universities in the U.S., Canada and Great Britain.
Colleges featured in the Fiske Guide to Colleges were selected with several broad principles in mind, beginning with academic quality. In addition, an effort was made to include achieve geographic diversity and a balance of public and private schools.
