UD student achievements celebrated and shared on social, local media

11:07 a.m., Sept. 6, 2013--The University of Delaware continues its partnership with readMedia by offering a new version of the accomplishment-sharing service, called Merit.

Merit — previously known as Hometown Newsmaker — provides students with a forum to track and share their experiences, achievements, awards, memberships and projects.

National Medal of Science

President Barack Obama recently presented the National Medal of Science to University of Delaware alumnus Rakesh Jain.

Warren Award

Rosalind Johnson, assistant dean for student success in the NUCLEUS Program in UD's College of Arts and Sciences, was presented the John Warren Excellence in Leadership and Service Award during a May 26 ceremony.

UD’s Office of Communications and Marketing will administer the University’s Merit account, granting students virtual achievement badges for a range of activities including making the Dean’s List, graduation and participating in study abroad programs.

Students will be notified via email every time they are granted an achievement and can subsequently share the news of their achievement on social media and on their own personal Merit pages.

Additionally, news of student accomplishments will be distributed to students’ hometown newspapers.

Students can visit UD’s Merit page to see accomplishments from their peers and learn more about how the program works. Once students are granted an achievement, they will be notified and can log on to Merit to establish their individual Merit pages.

Students are not required to maintain their own Merit pages. Achievements will automatically be posted to their page once they are administered by the University.

Merit pages provide employers who search for applicants online with a snapshot of students’ achievements and experiences.

Students, parents, faculty or staff who wish to submit news of a specific UD accomplishment can fill out a submission form here or email with the subject line “Merit Submission.”
