Lerner College students take honors in international competition
11:04 a.m., Oct. 7, 2013--A team of students from the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics at the University of Delaware has won second place in the International Student Team Competition hosted by APICS, a leading professional association for supply chain and operations management.
Lerner College seniors Jaclyn Williams, Ari Swerling and Kimberly Eagle, and recent graduates Hong Yin and Alex Liberatore, earned the right to compete in the international operations management competition after winning the grand prize at the fourth annual case competition sponsored by the APICS Mid-Atlantic District in February.

Also earlier this year, other APICS districts hosted case competitions. For the first time since 2008, all winning district teams were invited to compete against one another at the international meeting in Orlando, Fla., last weekend.
Unlike the traditional case study competition, students engaged in approximately five rounds of a computer simulation through “The Fresh Connection.” The simulation began Friday and ran through noon on Saturday.
Teams were then tasked with organizing presentations for Sunday morning, at which time they presented to both conference attendees and competition judges.
“This is an outstanding achievement for the operations management area and for our students especially,” said Christine Kydd, professor of operations management and adviser to the team. “Our team was made up of undergraduates, while the other teams were mostly graduate level students, and these students deserve a lot of credit for this accomplishment.”
