Alumnus Donovan to discuss STEM education research with non-STEM students

9:08 a.m., Oct. 3, 2013--William Donovan, associate professor of chemistry and director of freshman chemistry at the University of Akron, will deliver the second Mary Elizabeth Kramer Memorial Lecture at 4 p.m., Monday, Oct. 7, in 101 Brown Laboratory.

His topic will be “STEM Education Research with Non-STEM Students: Rewards and Challenges.”

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Donovan earned his bachelor's degree in chemistry with honors at UD in 1996 and then attended Purdue University where he received his Ph.D. in chemistry education. After serving as a visiting assistant professor at East Carolina University in 2001-02, he moved to the University of Akron as assistant professor. He was promoted to his current position in 2008. 

He has served as both member and chair of the American Chemical Society First-Term General Chemistry Exam Committee and the Full-Year General Chemistry Exam Committee.

The Mary Elizabeth Kramer Memorial Lecture honors Ms. Kramer, a UD alumna who taught freshman chemistry at UD to thousands of students from 1986 until her death in 2012.
