June 6-9: Food and culture series
This week’s Relay Rally will feature a series of fun stations with activities in which students can participate. There will be stations where participants can write encouraging letters to cancer patients or make bracelets for them and games such as “bra pong” and spin-the-wheel.
Participating students will receive raffle tickets for each activity to increase their chances to win a Main Street gift card. There will also be Relay giveaways.
At the event, students can learn about what Relay for Life is, what the organization has done and how they can become involved.
Relay for Life was founded in 1986 and has grown into a worldwide phenomenon. It is an overnight activity organized through the American Cancer Society to help fight cancer.
In total, Relay for Life has raised almost $5 billion.
On campus, the Relay for Life committee is hard at work planning events to help spread the word about the fundraiser.
Organizers say the Relay for Life event at UD is a powerful and inspiring community event at which teams of people “camp out” overnight and take turns walking around the track for the duration of the event.
Throughout the event there are themed laps, food available for purchase, music entertainment and opportunities to continue donating to Relay for Life through fun activities. For example, team members can be “jailed” and require donations to help “bail” them out.
